Shaving Tips
Shaving is the most important part of a mans grooming routine.
1. Shave after you shower.
Bristles that have absorbed water are much easier for the blade to cut. (The average mans facial hair has the same strength as copper wire!) Using a pre-shave oil or cream will help prepare tough beards.
2. Use a shaving brush.
A shaving brush lifts the beard from the face so that a closer shave can be experienced. (The brush also has an exfoliating effect which as any woman will tell you is good for the skin. In case you care.)
3. Use a good shaving cream.
Traditional shaving foams can strip the skin of natural oils and leave the skin feeling tight. Shaving creams and soaps work best if used with a brush. A good cream and oil will help the blade glide over the skin and prevent “drag” which can cause shaving rash. Personal preference will determine which scent and texture you most enjoy.
4. Use a sharp blade:
Razor blades blunt easily. Use a sharp blade. You should barely feel the blade passing over the skin and cutting the beard.
5. Rinse:
Clean residual shaving cream with warm water, then splash the face with cold water to close your pores. Pat the face dry with a towel. (Rubbing dry can irritate then skin immediately after a shave.)
6. Moisturise afterwards.
An after shave balm or cream used after shaving will replace moisture lost in shaving and help the skin heal. It’s best to avoid alcohol based after shave immediately after shaving.
Using good products and taking care will prevent ingrown hairs and shaving rash/bumps.
Done right, shaving is an enjoyable part of any mans morning.
“If you teach a poor young man to shave himself and keep his razor in order, you will contribute more to his happiness than in giving him a thousand guineas.”
